Nicole Richie: “My style hasn’t changed since Motherhood.” How ’bout you?

Nicole Richie Motherhood and Fashion

Whatever your life was like before kids, once they arrive it’s almost impossible not to feel the need to make adjustments.

Unless of course you are Nicole Richie: “I wear all the same [types of] things I wore [before motherhood]…There’s nothing specific that I’ve changed,” she recently told PEOPLE.

The fashion designer who plays mum to Harlow, 4½, and Sparrow, 3, went on to share “I’m going all day so it’s important for me, for my lifestyle, to kind of just be comfortable and not really think about what I’m wearing. I’ve always been one to dress for comfort.

On the other hand, her on-off friend, stylist Rachel Zoe, recently told WONDERWALL that since becoming a mum, her own personal style has definitely changed. “I think as a working mom, I have to dress myself differently now. I used to wear very, kind of, precious clothes. Now I wear more black. I wear things that, kind of, can look good for extended periods of time. Fabrics that don’t wrinkle. Things that don’t stain very easily. ‘Cause I know that my son is going to jump on my lap so, if I’m wearing silk, that’s not a great thing. I think I try to have fashion and function meet way more than I used to.

And Dannii Minogue, mother to 2½ year old Ethan, and host on Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model, shared with Fox in Flats how her style has changed since becoming a mum: “The biggest change is wearing flat shoes. I’m only 5’2” and I’ve loved heels pretty much my whole life. I’ve had to work out which flats to wear – and what to wear with them – since becoming a mum. I guess that has pushed my mummy-style towards more rock-edgy than pretty.

Me? Before I had my boys, my life was spent mostly in boardrooms or dance-floors, so most of my wardrobe was either corporate wear, or fun, sparkly party clothes. I’ve had to reassess my entire wardrobe to accommodate the more casual lifestyle I now lead, and at the same time muddle my way through figuring out what’s practical for this new stage of life. And I think it’s fair to say I’m still working it all out ;).
