We’ve all got certain favourite shoes for when we’re out and about with our kids. But an up-to-date shoe can lift your basic day-to-day ‘mummy uniform‘ in an instant.
We’ve had lots of fun sifting through the latest spring shoe trends, and these are our picks as the most stylish, practical and comfortable to wear while kidwrangling in the sunny glory of a just-hatched day.
5 shoe trends for Spring you can wear at the swings
1. Nude ballerinas
Seen at Chloë, Valentino and Celine, a skin-toned ballet flat will give the illusion of longer, elongated legs. Perfect to team with spring skirts, dresses and shorts.
Clockwise L-R: Chloë Scalloped leather ballerina flats $425, ECCO Goya $189.95, Dorothy Perkins $30, Darling Nude Tie ballet flat $25.
Vibrant hues like orange, fuchsia and cobalt blue are big news for spring, yet not everyone is comfortable wearing them. A brightly coloured shoe in your favourite style, on the other hand, can be a great way to be on trend.

3. Flat sandals
Nothing signals the transition to warmer months like a sandal, and this spring the options are endless. Regardless of what Madonna’s daughter reckons, variations of gladiators are still in style, but be sure to be extra critical about the impact these have on the shape of your ankles and calves as they are not flattering on everyone. Shop around for sandals that suit your personal style, and if in doubt invest in a beautiful pair in light tan leather – you can’t go wrong. A sandal with a heel-cup is especially practical for chasing after little-ones.
Clockwise L-R: Lebec Black $49.99, JCrew Irena $120, Gold Sandal $48.93, Miu Miu gladiator $310.
The menswear inspired trend is still going strong, and the loafer adds a classic, sophisticated vibe to any outfit. Choose a neutral shade for maximum versatility, or for a more modern take look for snake-skin, animal print or vibrant hues. We love them so much they made it to our list of 13 wardrobe essentials every mother can’t do without. Want styling tips? Check out our 7 ways to wear loafers.
Loafers: ECCO Kenna $199.95 (available in melon, black, white, burnt ochre).
Spotted on the Spring/Summer 2011 runways at Chanel, Derek Lam and Prada, the flatform is a hybrid of the platform and the flat. The idea is to give yourself ‘height-lift’ in a shoe that’s still comfortable. We’ve got styling and shopping tips here.
Clockwise L-R: Marc Jacobs, suede and snakeskin $556, Calvin Klein Collection metallic sandals, $318 Friis ZEZZA $159.95, Jeffrey Campbell SUEBEE $134.95
