Loafers: The new “it” shoe

Loafer, thrilled with its new-found status.

Loafers are the new “it” shoe

Announced  Sara Phillips when we chatted after her show at Australian Fashion Week.

They are ageless, sophisticated and classic. Comfort is key to good style and nothing is more comfortable than a good, classic loafer.

And she went on to explain how versatile they are:

In our show we paired them with dresses, skirts and pants, they suit all styles.

Yet I’ve got a pair of loafers purchased two months ago gathering dust in my closet as I’m not quite sure how to wear them.

So this week, I’ve put the new “it” shoe to the test, and been working on some loafer-based style inspiration for busy mums, using the ECCO Jesmond Pump, just like Sara.

7 ways to wear loafers

1. Summer Fresh.

Team loafers with a skirt that falls a couple of inches above your knee. Classic wayfarers and a rainbow mani add a colourful take on cool.

2. Nautical and Nice.

Inspired by Mary-Kate Olsen’s sorbet suit, team your blue jeans with a nautical breton t-shirt, bucket bag, loafers, and slicked-back bun for a look that’s smooth sailing and sweet.

3. Loafin’ around.

Take your tracksuit pants to the playground by adding polished accessories, and a cheeky smile.

Comfy preppy

4. Loafer goes luxe.

Wide legged, belted pants go with loafers the same way licensed clothing goes with flammable fabrics. It’s a given.

Keep your accessories golden and shiny and book lunch with the ladies.

5. A modern classic.

Modernise the classic preppy college-loafer-plaid-combo by adding skinny jeans, jeggings or fitted pants.

Team with longer layers, a roomy backpack, and balance the look with statement lipstick and a chunky beanie.

6. Short stuff no more.

The slight heel of the loafer will elongate your legs in shorts better than flat sandals or ballet flats.

Team with a 3/4 sleeved top and broad-brimmed fedora to balance the heaviness of the shoe, then add girly accessories to keep it pretty.

7. Freak your Gleek.

Team with bright block colours and a tailored high-waisted skirt for some sexy-librarian-cum-drama-queen style.
