Specialised breastfeeding tops are wonderful things. They have been specifically engineered to help you get easy booby access as discreetly as possible. But lordy, they can be expensive. Unless you’ve got Miranda Kerr’s budget, you might not be able to deck out your entire wardrobe in nursing tops.
But here’s the thing: you don’t actually need to. Plenty of your usual fashion choices can still work just fine when you’re a walking milk bar. Here are three of-the-moment looks that also work while nursing.
A denim shirt is one of this season’s fashion staples, and it can work in almost any combo. Tuck it into a skirt for an hourglass shape, pair it with even more denim (in a different shade, of course), wear it open like a jacket or tie in front for rockabilly chic. Like any button-down garment, it makes breastfeeding access a piece of cake, but for added ease, look for styles with press-stud buttons.
Kimono-style wraps are great for adding a dose of colour and disguising lumps and bumps. They are also a nursing mum’s “breast friend” as they provide an easy cover-up during feeds. Pick a sheer fabric for summer that will provide discretion without overheating, and heavier fabrics like silk in winter to keep you and bubs cosy.
For the smaller-breasted nursing mums among us, a strapless dress or top is just about the easiest style for breastfeeding access: just pull down and away you go. Look for styles in stretchy materials or that have elastic along the top, like this one.
