Fab Fox Find: Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream

Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream

By Andrea Michelle for Dr. LeWinn’s

We all have our favourite fallback options: a favourite bra, a favourite pair of shoes, a favourite scent. Favourites make us feel good every time we use them, no matter how many other alternatives we’ve got to choose from.

But I’ve never really had a favourite day cream – though not through lack of trying.

Some of the day creams I’ve tried before didn’t deliver the moisture my combination-skin needs, so I found I needed to reapply again later in the day when my skin started to feel tight and dry. Some were too rich and made my skin break out. Some creams had a weird medicinal smell, yet some were so over-scented they made me sneeze! And some had packaging too fiddly for me to handle before my morning caffeine fix had properly kicked in.

Recently, the guys in the lab over at Dr. LeWinn’s asked me to try their Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream, and review it on Fox in Flats. Given the fruitlessness of my ongoing search, I had no qualms about giving theirs a try in the vain hope it might be ‘the one’.

And after using it for a few weeks, I can honestly say it’s gonna stay in my skincare repertoire. Here’s why:

The right amount of moisture in all the right places.

The areas of my face that were prone to becoming dry and sometimes flaky (my forehead and chin) remained moisturised, and yet the parts where sneaky pimples can sometimes pop up (just under my jaw line) remained blemish-free.

It had a ‘just applied’ feeling all day.

You know that afternoon energy slump you get around 3pm each afternoon? The same often happens with my skin. But this product made my skin feel silky and moisturised right up until I was cleansing my face at night. The white-coated dudes at LeWinn’s said it’s because the cream contains ‘Hydro-boost Micropatch’ – some kind of slow release superpower that delivers continuous hydration throughout the day.

The packaging passed The Early Morning Fumble Test.

The cap was easy to pop off – even with slippery fingers. The cream came out with a simple press on the lid, and in just the right amount – double thumbs up as it’s hygienic and not wasteful. Plus, when I accidentally dropped the jar on the ground (my Dad didn’t nickname me ‘Butter Fingers’ for nothing ) it didn’t shatter as it’s made from plastic, not glass.

It smoothed out my wrinkles.

I love my laugh lines, but on one side of my face they’re slightly deeper. And it’s not because I’ve got a lopsided laugh (loud and chortling, yes. Lopsided, nope!) According to my beautician, it’s to do with the side I’m laying my head on my pillow – apparently it’s best to sleep on your back to encourage even distribution of wrinkles on either side of your face. Given this is NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN as I’m a committed side-sleeper, keeping those deeper wrinkles on the right hand side of my face in check will be a lifelong mission. Botox is an option, but the idea of sticking needles around my eyes is as appealing as sticking needles IN my eyes. So this cream has proven to be a good alternative, as my lopsided laugh lines appeared smoother and less noticeable, thanks apparently to a phenomenal ingredient they for some reason decided to name ‘Snap-8’.
