Open on a grey morning,  on an empty New York street. A yellow cab slowly approaches, then stops outside a not-yet-open store. Out steps a beautiful woman wearing a black dress, her hair swept up, black sunglasses perched on her nose and pearls around her neck. Henry Mancini’s ‘Moon River’ swells as her satin-gloved fingers reach into a paper bag, pulling out a takeaway coffee and a pastry. The cinematic classic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, has commenced.

There’s something so sophisticated, so understatedly cool, so elegantly classic, as well as something so gloriously theatrical, about seeing a woman in a black dress by day.

I know that I’d love a slice of that bobbing around in one of my otherwise mundane weekdays. Wouldn’t you?

That’s why this week, I dare you to wear your little black dress – like Audrey Hepburn did in Breakfast at Tiffany’s – for just one day. It’s gotta be the first thing you get dressed into that morning, and the last thing you take off that night.

The rules:

• Dress inspired by Audrey Hepburn in her iconic scene outside of Tiffany from the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ – think black dress, dark sunnies, an up-do, a sprinkle of pearls or sparkle, and if you’re really game, top with a tiara! Quiet confidence essential.
• Wear your outfit for one day, from when you get dressed in the morning till you brush your teeth before bed at night.
