Open on a grey morning, on an empty New York street. A yellow cab slowly approaches, then stops outside a not-yet-open store. Out steps a beautiful woman wearing a black dress, her hair swept up, black sunglasses perched on her nose and pearls around her neck. Henry Mancini’s ‘Moon River’ swells as her satin-gloved fingers reach into a paper bag, pulling out a takeaway coffee and a pastry. The cinematic classic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, has commenced.
There’s something so sophisticated, so understatedly cool, so elegantly classic, as well as something so gloriously theatrical, about seeing a woman in a black dress by day.
I know that I’d love a slice of that bobbing around in one of my otherwise mundane weekdays. Wouldn’t you?
That’s why this week, I dare you to wear your little black dress – like Audrey Hepburn did in Breakfast at Tiffany’s – for just one day. It’s gotta be the first thing you get dressed into that morning, and the last thing you take off that night.
Here’s some Aud-spiration to get you going:
And before you think it’s just too hard (and I start to flap my wings and call you “Chicken”) take a look at these ladies I snapped on the streets and in the playgrounds wearing their little black dresses. Just add up-do and a touch of pearl and they’re in!
So whether you’ll be having breakfast at Tiffany’s, or Kate’s or Lisa’s, whether you live in a house with just one cat like Holly Golightly, or you live in a house filled with people, this week, I dare you to get your Breakfast at Tiffany’s look going on. Pastries and coffee optional.
Are you in? Or are you ‘Chicken’?
