5 days of fab hair with 5 products

Last time I turned my trolley into Aisle 6 (the hair aisle at my local supermarket) I kinda freaked out at the number of options. Nanoseconds later, I did a screeching U-turn, punched my trolley through a tower of cardboard boxes  (Hollywood car-chase style), and escaped toward the relative security of the paper towel aisle, where the decision-making process is a little less challenging.

Again I was left wishing for a magical someone to take my hand and lead me to the right hair product choices for awesome hair. And again I was left walking around with rollers in my hair feeling a little awkward.

See…awkward.

Enter Heidi Klum. Nothing awkward about her.

See…NOT awkward.

Heidi pops by Fox in Flats pretty frequently, offering practical style inspiration for busy mums. In the last year we’ve featured photos of her here, here, and here. She’s a mother, still has the wicked bod of a supermodel, has great style, and awesome hair too.

Heidi Klum’s just teamed up with Schwarzkopf to develop two products: Heidi’s Heat Styles Mousse, and Heidi’s Volume Powder.

Combine these with a few other products in the Schwarzkopf range – Push Up Volume Shampoo, Push Up Volume Conditioner, and Schwarzkopf Ultimate Styling Hairspray – and Heidi, along with the hair-loving guys at Schwarzkopf reckon that’s all you’ll need for five days of fab hair. And we’ve got 10 Schwarzkopf Styling packs to giveaway containing all of these products. Details on how to WIN later.

Keen to break out of my hair-style rut (see the awkwardness above)  I tried all five products, and I think they’re onto something.

5 days of fab hair with just 5 products

Day 1: Monday – Straight and sleek

  1. Prepare hair with Push Up Volume shampoo & conditioner.
  2. Use Heidi’s Heat Styling Mousse and blow dry using a large round brush to create volume.
  3. Get the straightening iron out – smooth the midlengths and ends, but not the root area.
  4. Add a small amount of Heidi’s Volume Powder at the roots for volume.
  5. Light mist of Ultimate Styling Hairspray for hold.

Day 2: Tuesday – Up style

  1. Shake powder into the root area to create BIG volume that will give this up do an edge.
  2. Loosely pull hair up and secure using bobby pins – almost into a messy bun.
  3. Leave fringe out or pull straight back using Heidi’s Volume Powder to add a little more height.
  4. Spray with Ultimate Styling Hairspray for a perfect finish.

Day 3: Wednesday – Curls

  1. Prepare hair with Push Up Volume shampoo & conditioner.
  2. Use Heidi’s Heat Styling Mousse and blow-dry upside down to create volume.
  3. Curl big sections of hair loosely (from about halfway down from the roots) using a straightening iron.
  4. Use Heidi’s Volume Powder at the root area for a soft bouncy finish.
  5. Finish with Ultimate Hairspray.

Day 4: Thursday – Loose twist

  1. Refresh your hair with Heidi’s Volume Powder at the roots.
  2. Take a section of hair – about 1 square inch from either side of your part. Twist the hair loosely and pull toward the back of your head, then pin in place.
  3. Repeat on the other side.

Day 5: Friday – Texture

For this style simply refresh your hair with Heidi’s Volume Powder at the roots, and add a light mist of Ultimate Hairspray for hold.

OR

1. Prepare hair with Push Up Volume shampoo & conditioner.

2. Apply Heidi’s Heat Styling Mousse using a hairdryer on a low setting to dry – no brush needed (we want a tousled, messy finish).

3. Finish with a dusting of Heidi’s Volume Powder to create texture.

4. Light mist of Ultimate Hairspray for hold.

See? 5 hairstyles. 5 days. 5 products.

I like to run the GHD through and then do a loose messy up do.  If my hair can’t be saved by straightening, then I do a few messy french braids and a messy up-do.  Sounds like messy is the key.  It’s actually not that hard to look “just thrown together” or maybe I just look more ‘thrown at’ instead.

My latest quick hair style is a spray of sea salt spray on dry hair, quick blast with the blow-drier and then add one of the magic dust products to the roots of the hair – styling courtesy of Zoe Foster!  I am useless at blow-drying so this seems to work for me!

Dry shampoo is a must for me, currently loosing all my hair after baby number 2 so the lift is appreciated (plus I put off washing it cos i clog the drain!) and to be honest, I’m loving the ‘backyard braid’ u posted last week at the moment :) or a side part & a loose bun with a cpl bobby’s to help the thing stay put!

Tomorrow I am getting my bum length hair chopped off to about your length.  So right now I don’t have a style cause it is soooooooooo long and heavy I just straighten it, curl the ends (to hide the split ends) and leave it down cause I get a headache if it is up.  I TOTALLY need that volume powder… OMG I AM SO EXCITED NOW!

It is crazy how much I need this haircut. :)

I have very naturally curly hair, so on the mornings I wake up looking like Diana Ross after a particularly wild disco night, I go for the piled high pony tail. A bit wild, but quick and easy.

  • http://twitter.com/MummaInHeels Melinda Stella

My go to hair style is a high pony tail with a braid at the front. The braid makes it look like you have spent way more time/effort than you have.

On another note, love Heidi Klum! She is so stylish.

A very quick and styish hairstyle is a quick version of the classic french twist.. Brush all your hair straight down, grap all your hair together at the base of your head and twist upwards to the middle. Place 4 pins in the sides to keep the hairstyle in place and there you go. Takes 2 mins. Love it when i have to take kids to school and this is neat and tidy enough for work and is great for the summer time as well.

  • Harko5

the messy bun, makes me feel refreshed and fun… ready for summer

  • Michelle Dawson

One of my fav’s especially for those mornings where everything goes wrong, quick straighten and then up in a piggy tale, quick blast from the dryer across the fringe and then out the door, done and dusted within minutes.
