WIN gourmet dinners and spend more time on YOU!

I fantasise about a number of things:

A backyard BBQ at my new BFF Gwyneth’s house…

Having hair like this…

Alex Skarsgard…

And not cooking dinner every night, so I can spend time relaxing with my family and/or doing my nails.

Yet despite regularly tweeting Gwyn, she’s still yet to reply. It’s unlikely my hair will ‘hey-presto’ change into Elle’s, and my husband would never approve of another dude walking around our home in a pair of boxers.

But a week off cooking is not beyond reach, as Gourmet Dinner Service is giving away $250 of delicious, healthy, restaurant-quality food to a lucky Fox in Flats reader.

I first heard of Gourmet Dinner Service a couple of years ago from some friends in my mothers’ group. I was preparing to return to work after the birth of my second son, and freaking out about how I would be able to manage the day-to-day household things – like feeding the family – with my new working hours. Kylie, a lawyer and mother of two told me how she had pre-made meals delivered weekly that were of restaurant-quality, yet priced comparably with take-out.

I never did try it back then. To be honest, it seemed a bit flamboyant to have ‘gourmet food’ delivered. Instead, we got back on first-name basis with the guy at the local Thai, ate loads of BBQ chickens, and as a result gained a couple of kgs.

But now, as my mission for Fox in Flats is to share tips and ideas to make it easier to navigate motherhood in style, I wondered if something like home delivered meals could help free up time.

Time that could be better spent doing stuff we’d prefer to be doing, or simply time to catch up and take a breather.”

So recently, during a week overflowing with meetings, events, launches, travel, school tuck-shop duty, a sick little one, unexpected visitors and a family drama, we tried the Gourmet Dinner Service. Not only were we amazed at how delicious the food was, it was healthier than our usual convenience options, and it was ridiculously easy to prepare. Even my husband, who is good but frustratingly slow in the kitchen, could get dinner ready for us in the time it took me to read the kids their bedtime story.

And best of all, as I’m the ‘head chef’ in the family, I had loads of extra free time up my sleeve.

I spent my extra time flicking through a copy of GRAZIA from two weeks before that I’d been too busy to read, I pulled my summer clothes out of storage and started to do a wardrobe cull, and I gave myself an at-home manicure. And when my hubby* came home from work, we had time to relax and chat over a glass of wine instead of fussing around in the kitchen.

*For the record (and the sake of my marriage) my husband is foxier than Alex Skarsgard.

In my extra time I would sit and relax poolside and REALLY watch Mr 7 during his swimming lesson, instead of allowing my mind to wander off to dinner preparation.  It would also mean I could STAY and watch Miss 11-teen play Touch Footy instead of the usual drop, rush home and start dinner.

In my extra time,I might actually get to soak in the tub, drink some bubbly, read a book while wearing my headphones, away from my 7 kids.I haven’t had any alone time in so long, especially with the 3 toddlers.

  • AJ

When I win the Fox-in-Flats Gourmet Dinner Service giveaway, I’ll spend my extra time enjoying food I haven’t had to think about or cook and quality time with my busy lawyer hubby. Since having my two beautiful girls we hardly ever get to eat together, let alone eat something gourmet! It would be a real treat to be able to sit down to dinner and enjoy more quality time together than we would otherwise have….. with a nice glass or two of wine!

  • Samy_savva

When I win the Fox in Flats Gourmet Dinner Service giveaway, I’ll spend my extra time with hubby hopefully making buns in the oven hehe. We are desperately wanting another child, however life always seems to get in the way and the biggest thing is the meals so this would mean we could really start trying to further our family. Thinking about it – does it count if my “spare time” would be spent trying to get “less spare time” in 9 months??? lol.

  • Luzalganaraz

When I win the Fox in flats Gourmet dinner service giveaway competition, I will spend my time just looking at my newborn baby girl, due at the end of jan.
I I’ll have my sister and mother in law staying from interstate and a friend and her parents for a 2 day stopover on the way back to southamerica.
I know I will have my hands full (and house) with my 2 and 4 year old. Having dinner sorted for everyone would ease that time and prevent my hormones taking over!

  • Kylie Patchett

With the extra time I would get to enjoy some quality play time with my kids instead of trying to get them out from under my feet while I am cooking. It would just be nice to enjoy a meal with my husband that i haven’t had to slave over!

  • Pene

Ohhhh.. Extra time at dinner time would just be heavenly!!!!!  I have become really bored with food at the moment – I have lost my mo-jo big time in the kitchen!!!  Maybe in part it is that I am seriously over the winter/stodge cooking thing…  Maybe it is because with a husband who works a fly in fly out job I am overworked and underappreciated!!!  Either way with three kiddies ranging from 7 to 17 I NEED A BREAK!!!  I would use my extra time to have a shower BEFORE 11pm and pour a nice glass of wine (or G&T or champagne or beer or maybe even a bourbon!!!  Not too fussy..) and sit and talk, really talk, with my kids about their day…  Ok so now I will snap out of that little day-dream for the moment and pop in the next load of washing…  *sigh*         :-)

  • nicanoo

With all the extra free time I would have should I win this wonderful contest, I would be spending it with my little kiddies at the park in the afternoon and enjoying their giggles and laughter and also be a refreshed, happy wife for the hubby to come home to waiting with a glass of wine in hand and a big smile on the face ready to put my feet up and share the day with my husband.

Kids happy, check; hubby happy, check; and mummy happy, check; we will all be winners on so many levels!

  • Terriannhamilton

When I win I will sit down and do my daughters homework with her rather than yelling instructions while I’m at the stove preparing something for dinner

  • http://kylieofiu.com Kylie Ofiu

When I win the gourmet dinners I will spend the time reading with my daughters and playing with them more.

    The meals look fantastic.

I will finish the work that I’m always trying to get done before I start making dinner. There’s always “just one more thing” so dinner is always late.

I shared on facebook, under the name Suzie Weir Beckinsale. I also told my friends if they win, they totally need to invite me for dinner :)

  • SB

If I won, I’d spend the time finally getting past the stage I’m stuck at in “Angry Birds” – no, not really, actually I’d invite my friend, who’s husband is in hospital fighting cancer, get all the kids out of the house (hers and mine), and have several girly nights with gourmet food, champagne, home style manicures and uninterrupted conversation.

With a husband finishing his business degree while he also works nearly full time hours in a busy company and two girls who both go to preschool (and at the moment we are doing transition days for my eldest who starts school next year) if I am lucky enough to win Fox in Flats Gourmet Dinner Service giveaway, I’ll spend my extra time relaxing as a family. Maybe a board game, a walk to the park or a family movie. Definitely a glass of wine for the husband and myself once the kids go to bed rather than spending time cleaning the kitchen:)

Joanne T Ferguson shared the above saying at Facebook, TRUE!
While I see there are no locations in SA, “they say” giving is much better than receiving too!

“When I win the Fox in Flats Gourmet Dinner Service giveaway, I’ll spend my extra time”… appreciating I was in the position to share this with him, as he is SOOOOOOOOO deserving of this and would really and genuinely make a difference in both our lives…in different ways, true!Fingers crossed and thanks for considering my submission to win, but share it with a remarkable young man who asks for nothing in life, but gives of himself unconditionally in EVERY way too!!!

Dammit. I wanted this. But then I scanned just two comments down to Joanne T’s words about her friend. So (big sigh) if I win, I’d like Joanne’s friend to have it too. *heads off to plan next week’s menu*

    • Joanne T

G’day and BIG thanks! I did not (genuinely) want to start a hearts campaign (ie one person deserves it more than another) as I believe EVERYONE is more than well deserving of this win (TRUE!) If you knew my friend, you would be proud to call him your friend too :)
Thank you for your kind words…and may good karma be also returned to you!

If I win the Gourmet Dinner Service prize, I will spend the extra time appreciating my husband!  I’m a very lucky girl, as the Welshman is our family chef, and I would like to give him a break (he’s so busy with his new promotion – soooo proud!).  I could cook for him, but that wouldn’t really be much of a treat for him!  ;)

gee whizz..what wouldn’t i do - read more, finish the million various craft/knitting projects that i have started and stuffed into a big hong kong shopping bag behind my daughters change table, give the house a massive cleanup and donate all of the stuff we dont use to the op shop, watch some of the programs that i have taped on the HDD recorder that i never get around to watching and usually end up deleting so that we have more room to tape Play School…..oh and spend more time with my kids doing things that they (and me) enjoy doing, like taking them to the park and pushing my son on the swing for ages….going on public transport journeys (my 3yo loves trains and buses) and just spend time snuggling them rather than chopping up vegies and trying to provide a healthy meal each night….

When I win the Fox in Flats Gourmet Dinner Service giveaway, I’ll spend my extra time…well, drinking wine probably. But if I win this lovely prize, I will be donating it to the family of one of my sons school friends. They have just found their 6 year old has leukemia, & as well as taking part in various fund raisers, I was trying to think of a very practical donation. I’m sure it would ease their mind to not have to worry about dinner after a long day at the hospital.

  • PaulsiePops
